Simple Joys

Sometimes it is the little things, that bring a spot of sunshine to your day.  Buying a bunch of tulips at the grocery store.  Actually finishing the laundry.  A call from a friend you haven't heard from in a long time.  Milk and cookies (with the milk served in a wine glass for giggles).  Taking time to enjoy the sunset.

This week, I got myself a little spot of sunshine that will brighten my day every time I cook for the next few months.  I had my knives sharpened.

I know, I know, this really isn't in the same category as a stroll on a beach, but who doesn't love a sharp knife?

The amazing thing is that it wasn't as much of a hassle as I imagined.  On Saturday, while I was out returning stuff, I took my knives to that weird knife shop in the mall.  You know the one...it is usually called something like "Excalibur Sword and Pipes" and they sell, among the knives and lefty scissors, real swords and machetes for all of our dueling and bush whacking needs.

Well, turns out that guy behind the counter with the 6 inch handle bar mustache, supports his hobby of being a heckler at Renaissance festivals on the weekends, by sharpening the knives of regular old Joe's and Jane's in the neighborhood.

Really, they were VERY nice.  I dropped off my knives on Saturday.  They finished them by Monday at 4, and only charged me $28 for the whole lot.

I almost can't wait to make something that requires a lot of chopping.  Mmm, maybe jambalaya (when I can eat sausage again).

Rock on Knife Man!  Your skilz have brought me a spot of sunshine!
